Making of the DIY Toy TLR Camera

by MarkV on January 16, 2010

Japan is a wonderful far east world of quirky film loving people. At least that is the way I see it. The Otona No Kagaku DIY Magazine (means science for adults) released a DIY TLR camera kit. This low budget kit (I paid 50 dollars for one shipped to the US) can be assembled into a working TLR camera called the Gakkenflex. I’ve heard assembly takes as little as 30 minutes. Is this toy TLR primitive? Oh yes it is! The Gakkenflex has a fixed aperture of F11 and a fixed shutter speed of 1/150th of a second.

Want to check out the assembly before jumping in? Check out the following video!
